Our Veterinarians

Dr. Bruce Setlock

Dr. Setlock received his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota, majoring in Biology, and Anthropology. He then worked for Iowa State University as a research and teaching assistant while obtaining his Masters degree in Zoology, specializing in parasitology. In 1987 he was awarded his doctorate in veterinary medicine with Honors from Iowa State Veterinary College. Dr. Setlock’s interests include soft tissue surgery, parasitology and shelter medicine.

In his free time, Bruce enjoys spending time with his wife Sandy and their three children. He thrives on any home remodeling project and working outdoors in the company of his dog, Zelda, a Golden Retriever, while his cat Peach keeps watch.

Dr. Allison Herron

Dr. Herron received her bachelor’s degree from Eckerd College, with a major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. While she loved the beaches of Florida, she returned to Illinois to be close to her family. She received her master’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Illinois and was awarded her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 2009. Fostering the human-animal bond between clients and their pets is one of the most rewarding aspects of her career. Dr. Herron is particularly interested in anesthesia and pain management, infectious diseases, pediatrics, and geriatrics.

When Allison isn’t at work, she loves to spend time with her family - going to movies, reading, and hiking with her herd of tiny dogs. She looks forward to sushi night with her friends. She relaxes by practicing yoga and spending time with her loyal dog Gizmo, an Affenpinscher, and Bumper, a three legged Pomeranian.

Dr. Amanda Riesterer

Dr. Riesterer received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with a major in Animal Sciences and a minor in Chemistry. Returning to her alma mater, she was awarded her doctorate of veterinary medicine in 2015. While a student, she continually worked in veterinary clinics and with rescue organizations to better the lives of our furry companions. Dr. Riesterer focuses her interests on feline medicine, low stress handling, shelter medicine, and high volume spaying and neutering.

When not working, Amanda spends many of her evenings and weekends teaching a local high school marching band alongside her husband Bobby. In her actual free time, she enjoys reading, biking, and spending time with her family, including her two brown and black tabbies; Tiger and Timber.

Dr. Karen Wernette

As a member of our part-time staff for the past 10 years, Karen has previously worked for the American Veterinary Medical Association in educational services. She currently works full-time for Hub International as a veterinary Insurance specialist where she frequently gives presentations at regional and national continuing education meetings.

Supporting Roles

Darlene - Veterinary Technician

With over 30 years experience as a veterinary technician, Darlene has a particular interest in the rehabilitation of ill and injured animals. She has rescued all of her current pets that run the gamut in sizes from Daisy, her 100-pound bull Mastiff, to Abu, her 2-pound kitten.

Kelly - Veterinary Technician

Kelly has been working with animals for over 16 years. While she loves animals of all kinds, Kelly is particularly dedicated to German Shepherds. She also loves her black cats and believes such sweet animals could only bring good luck.

Patricia - Veterinary Technician

Pat has been breeding and working with animals for over 25 years. She is a certified groomer and currently works with us as a veterinary technician. She loves Rottweilers and Borzoi’s and has been involved in extensive training called French Ringsport, where dogs learn advanced obedience behaviors.

Jen - Ward and Recovery Attendant

Jen has been working at the animal hospital for the past 6 years. She originally started off as a Receptionist and eventually transferred into the back as the Ward and Recovery Attendant. She ensures that all of the pets that come in for surgery or other procedures requiring them to stay for the day (or overnight) remain comfortable and safe. Jen has many previous years of experience working with animals including working at a doggy day care facility and even running her own Shar-Pei rescue. She has a few Shar-Peis of her own at home (along with a couple fosters) and she has four kitties that were all rescued from Orphans of the Storm.

Nicole - Office Manager

Nicole has been a part of our team since moving in to our new facility in 2011. In her free time she loves spending time with her Red Merle Australian Shepherd Cobalt, a Jack Russell named Rudder, and her Eclectus Parrot that she calls Mango.

Megan- Reception

Megan has many years experience with customer service and came to us from a realty office in the area. She also gained some experience in the veterinary field working at a Banfield while she was in high school as a Kennel Assistant. She strives to provide a welcome atmosphere to all of our clients and their pets. She has two dogs of her own, Charlie and Chelsea, who were both adopted from rescues. Her goal is to one day move into the back of the hospital as a Veterinary Technician and go back to school to become certified.
